One area I've been really slack on recently is events. There's been nothing in the calendar for a month or more 😮

I'm quite happy to arrange those events I can again for 2010. Slate and some metal in N Wales, and meets with clubs and groups in the areas who have in the past been good enough to lay on trips.

Any suggestions?

It would be really great to see events for AN members across the country if at all possible. So if anybody has any ideas or wants to do a trip please feel free.

I shall aim to get at least one meet per month into the calendar for 2010 if I can.

I'll sort something Northern for next year though not sure what yet. Perhaps the Brownley Hill round trip or something in Swaledale if there's any interest.

One place I'd certainly be keen to go to again is mid-Wales if anybody is prepared to arrange a trip there.

Well metal was what I had in mind having found the handful I'd been to there fascinating but I have no idea what else remains to be seen from an underground point-of-view.

I shall have a word with a couple of friends to see if we can come up with some ideas. I guess we could ask Roy nicely if he feels like doing another weekend. Last years weekend around Talybont was fantastic. :flowers:

I'd hope to be putting up an event for the Greenhow area sometime when the days are longer. Could spend a whole day just pointing out where things are, but should be able to fit in a few underground jaunts.

Between us i'm sure we can come up with something that will appeal in both of those areas.

Sir Francis Level or Brandy Bottle through trip springs to mind for those who like a dip in Swaledale

As is always the case, anyone visiting The London / Surrey area is welcome to contact me to arrange a visit to sites down here. Godstone sites April to November and Chaldon quarries any time. Few people take up this offer when I make it, but it is always there - just needs pushing to the top of the pile now and then.

Don't tackle the Brandy Bottle/Hard Level through trip if it has been raining heavily, a few people I know almost didn't make it out 😮

Proposed aditnow trip for 2010.

Parc Lead Mine, and its ramifications including Llanrwst and Cwffty.

This will be a 2 day weekend event, the plan being to give plenty of time for the aditnow photographers to do their thing.
I expect to see Simon, the Colonel, Sparty, and all my friends who were on this years mid Wales trip.

The above is in my opinion one of the classic mine exploration trips of country, the features are impossible to describe, and unfortunately are very noticeable by their absence of photographs from this website.
This is something that we need to rectify.

The most spectacular ochre stalactite formations that I have ever seen
Rising mains with huge clack boxes
Spectacular fracture zone with sections of a whole level falling into the understopes
A level supported on chains secured to the cheeks of the stope.
A double power take off pumping arrangement, unique to the whole country.

This is to name but a few.

Not a trip for the faint hearted, although the SRT is novice grade the technicalities involve a vertical chain ladder with water coming down on your head, and wading through upper chest deep water and ochre.
I am at present doing safety work in Parc as people who use ME will be aware but expect to have this finished by early in the new year. This includes overhauling the main ladderways and I also want to put a lifeline across the deeper water.

I propose that the Saturday will be a trip to western Cwffty visiting Llanrwst on the way. This is the hard trip with the deep water and ochre.

Sunday will be a trip to the eastern section of the lower No 3 level including ‘stalactite passage’. If time permits, we can explore some of the stopes above the upper No 2 level to make up the day.

Now, I am a mid Wales RE. Does anyone object if I bring the mine descriptions for Parc, Llanrwst, and Cwffty up to date?

2 places gone, 6 remaining.
We have to be sensible about numbers.

EDIT
Blow it, if the numbers go up I will arrange 2 trips.

Sorted.

I'll take a place please Roy. Sounds great.
