One suggestion for the diary for 2009 is a day out in the Dinorwic quarries.

The plan is for a relatively full day, with an early start and the aim of walking most of the quarries with enough time for photography.

In order to make the most of the day, it seems sensible to arrange the trip for sometime in the summer months, not least in the hope that it won't be raining!

I'm also aware that there is a Welsh Mines Society day at Dinorwic, but this is obviously not intended to clash with, or rival it.

Hopefully this trip will also appeal to some people who don't get underground but bear in mind that there will be a fair bit of walking, including up and down inclines!

So... is anyone interested; and if so, what dates would be suitable/unsuitable?

The WMS day at Dinorwic is 6th June.

However, even if the aditnow visit were to be on the same day, I can't see that there would be any potential for a clash - after all, it's quite a big place. Perhaps Roy Fellows would like to comment on this when he gets back from the weekend - he's organising the WMS event.

Thank you Dave - I've got the date somewhere but hadn't checked! I suspect Simon and/or I may be looking to attend the WMS trip, so it's unlikely to be the same day.

Simon has been wanting to 'do' a Dinorwic trip for about 18 months, but we didn't get round to it last year: the idea is being floated here to see when is convenient for people.

Pace - no, it won't clash with the Big Bash. There's a good chance that some of us 'locals' will be joining in for a couple of the Big Bash trips, but there's also a possibility that some of us will be in Cumbria for one of the weekends.

Will you be parking on the Padarn Side, near The A inclines, and then walking across to the C Inclines/Peris side?

Um... 😉

Probably, but I shall leave that SimonRL, who knows his way around the place a lot better than I do!

I have just received a letter from Adrian Barrell who organised a WMS meet back in 1996, where he reports a run in with a little Hitler type security guard. Of course the place has changed a lot since then with the diving school and the quarries being used by climbing schools. But 2 large groups on the same day could maybe attract attention. This could be detrimental to both as there would no doubt be contact between parties from both groups and it could appear like an invasion to anyone watching.
I don’t think that I am being paranoid here.
On another note, I have agreed to arrange a mid Wales meet for people from the ‘other website’, dates and program to be arranged. It would probably include Talybont deep level, Frongoch, Henfwlch, etc. There may also be a ‘new ground’ subject to a dig breaking through, but after some of my recent failures I would not count on it.

My avatar is a poor likeness.

Cheers Roy - I think we're probably looking at some time in July?

I would come along on this one as I am always fascinated with all that there is to see there. You can look at many of the working areas of the quarry and absorb the atmosphere, and imagine the place as it was when working.
