Contractors have also been appointed (not too many surprises here):

AMC UK, a joint venture between Thyssen Group and Redpath Group has been selected as preferred contractor for all the shafts and the mine site development.
A Hochtief, Murphy Joint Venture has been selected as preferred contractor for the 6m dia/37km TBM driven mineral transport system.

I think I heard something about this on Radio 4 this morning about 7:30ish. Unfortunately I missed the start of the article. Anyway they reckon there is no need in the immediate future to tunnel out under the sea as there is sufficient of whatever it was in inland deposits. Also something about 1000 long term jobs and another 1000 jobs in the construction phase.

According to today's Times, the rich Australian lady miner, is going to put a lot of cash into this project, via her holding company Hancock prospecting.
They apparently are committed to $350, million, which is just under half of the estimated cost of the mine.
It all looks good, to at least start!
However has anyone seen scientific results of using this polyhalite, as a fertilise?

Remember them doing a lot of research earlier on. The benefits are more marked in some crops.

Looks like the rest of the money is from a new share offering, investors have been offered the chance to buy more shares at 20p, Hence the share price crash!

There are all kinds of rumours surrounding this aspect of the project. There are those who believe it would be far more cost effective for Sirius to connect up with the easternmost Boulby workings then use their conveyor/rock shaft/processing/rail infrastructure rather than a 40+km tunnel and associated conveyor to Teesport.

They've started all the preliminary work for the Intermediate Access Shaft at Lockwood though, which does bring the former hypothesis under significant doubt!

Any talk of them using Boulby for hoisting is fanciful. The rock shaft at Boulby is kept operating at capacity, even if it was redundant it would not have capacity as Sirius plan to hoist nearly three times as much as Boulby.
