has anyone done any exploring around the hawes end of the buttertubs road there look to be some level entrances around the climb onto the moor coming from hawes direction

There's some very obvious quarrying off to the east of the road not far above Hardraw.. Stags Fell I think. You can get underground in two or three places there. Nice enough if you just fancy a poke about.

Not looked at any of the lead mines in that neck of the woods.

thanks RJV it would be interesting to have a look around that area there look to be some pretty big spoil heaps north of that area I think its called sargill side lead mine

If they were the ones very obvious from Hawes I think we spotted them from the pub last year and went over for a look.

well it would be a good excuse for a full english at the cafe in hawes might go up sunday if the weathers ok :thumbsup:

The cafe where the bikers go? Smashing breakfasts, especialy if your ambitions for the day don't go beyond being very full and moving very slowly. 😉

been for a look around today weather was wet and windy. Interesting site its the first time we have seen a roof slate mine. They must of been brave to have dug out such large areas and just rely on stacks of deads to hold the roof up.
