Sorry folks, the site went down around 8pm 31st May and has only just come back online (1pm 1st June).

Apparently somebody dug a trench through the fibre connection to the data centre where AditNow lives.

I was given to understand there were multiple diverse fibre connections to the data centre, but clearly they all run through the same channel :(

Anyway, back up and running now.

My host (Memset) has multiple redundant everything apparently but total outages are not uncommon.

They do indeed. I was with Memset for quite a few years, and they were pretty good, but I had outages with them too.

Assuming this is the same incident that entirely removed internet access for a lot of the Abergele / St.Asaph / Llandudno area, apparently the two cable runs are 2km apart and someone went through both with a trencher.

I suspect either you'd have to do that on purpose or have the worst luck of anyone in the trenching business!

I promise you I haven't gone into trenching!

The host's service statuses have mentioned a cut near Manchester, and another near St. Asaph (where the datacentre is), hence the DC being completely isolated.

I did have slightly better things to do today then deal with web host problems 😉

On the bright side, presumably all the web servers were running, just that they were running in lonely solitude, no visiting web traffic mode...

Yeah, running nice and cool :thumbsup:

Anyway, at least everything is back up and running now. Although more downtime is likely as the current repair is temporary. They have installed an above ground fibre bypass. The proper repair will be done later on today.

Meanwhile, somewhere near St. Asaph a sheep is looking at a thin strand of plastic running across the field and contemplating chewing through it...

I noticed I couldn’t access the site last night,but thought nothing of it.
As financial stuff, I assume is not on this site, then whilst it had been a nuisance for us it presumably isn’t a financial loss?
I heard on radio 4 news that parts of the Visa network had gone down, some customers not being able to pay with their credit cards, for their groceries.
Visa were saying the matter was under investigation.
Now I can see that being a major problem for some people.
Just gives a perspective on what happened on our site.

I thought similar with the thread about the Coniston mine bomb, and the fact that IRA and David Cameron were also in the equation.

Anyone know what those clicking sounds on the land-line are? :confused:
