Some improvements have been made to the forum today, mainly to speed things up a bit...

The AN forum was written from the ground up, rather than using an off the shelf forum, which is miles better from the point of view of integration into the rest of the site, but now it's grown to nearly 30,000 posts it was beginning to slow down a bit.

So far I've re-written the main forum home page http://www.aditnow.co.uk/community/default.aspx , and the page that builds the individual forum home pages (for example http://www.aditnow.co.uk/community/viewforum.aspx?f=32 ) both of which (with some more still to do) load a lot faster than before. Also the view topic page is much faster now on very long topics.

A bit more work to do, and a few more pages to apply this re-write to, but it's certainly improving things. There's a few bugs to iron out as well, but I will have those locked down over the next day or so.

Hi Simon, is there a facility to bulk load photos to an archive or other location, personal album etc.
I've been on here a year and it's taken me that long to get around to asking....Sad init!

Hi Roy

You can bulk upload to all albums, 'user' or 'archive' in any mine, just look at the top left of the screen (under the big header graphic) on an album page and you'll see 'quick upload links', from where you can bulk upload. Let me know if you can't find it and I'll post a screen shot.

You can't bulk upload to a personal album - although it could be added, there's just never been demand for the feature.

Thanks Simon, the bulk uploader will be great. I dont upload much but it will be a great help to do it bulk style. :thumbup:

I asked Simon the other day wether it would be possible to add a grid reference search facility i.e SH 7** 4** or SH 73* 45*. Would this be of any help to other forum users? I'm forever finding mine references on o.s maps but have no idea of their name or if they are documented.

I like this idea, thanks Lister. Will add it to the list - probably will get time to add it to the site in the first week in November when the next round of new work / new features will be done.

For now I'm cocentrating on optimising and speeding this up - the main forum index page, individual forum home pages (e.g. general chat, n wales, n w england etc.) and the view topic display - all now a lot faster. And today a similar performance improvment to the Member List, with Private Messaging still to do.

Once I've got all that out the way, I'll add the backlog of bug fixes / new feature suggestions.

LAP - International Mines Near, no not yet, although I think it'll be a while before there are enough International mines to justify it? When there are I'll work out how to do it 😉
