The forum has been up and running for a few months now, and is ticking over quite nicely with a good number of people posting informative messages.

However there are a few gaps in the areas covered by existing members; we've got good coverage from North Wales and the North West, but less from the North East and the South West in particular.

Does anybody have any ideas for how we can attract people with the knowledge and input in these areas? It would be really good for the forum to expand to cover all areas of the UK.

Hmmm.. Interesting subject. I suppose like any other activity, Mine Exploration is populated also by people who prefer not to have an online presence & contribute to forums such as these. I can think of a good many people who come into this category. Some I know personally and others by reputation alone. (2 in particular). Also it has to be accepted that Mine Exploration is a rather narrow subject, so there is not going to a massive quantity of contributors as there probably is for the "Ford Escort" forum. (Not that I have one of those, by the way). Anyway.. quality beats quantity everytime. 😉

Hows about targeting/e-mailing caving clubs in those specific areas?

I know that caving clubs do have members that enjoy mines as well as caves.

Maybe a nice email formed in the style of an advert, pictures etc, rather than a few lines of text and a request to post a mention in their links page?

There is a list somewhere on the internet of registered caving clubs in the uk, with contact details and where relevant, e-mail and web addresses, albeit sometimes out of date.

This is more your field than mine, Mr S, but try putting "Mine Exploration" into Google. I would have thought AN should have been on the first page of results, but it wasn't.Is there perhaps some way of increasing the awareness of AN on the search engines ? After all I suppose its the first place for an interested party to look...

Thanks for the input, I'm trying to build up a good links page at the moment, with reciprocal links, but it's slow going.

Hopefully the links will be a handy resource in themselves.

Google ranks site by the number of other sites with links to them, so getting listings on other sites will improve aditnow's findability on google. Geologyrocks has a links section which is free to add to - though they would appreciate a reciprocal link I'm sure. As for getting members in the West Country, try getting links on eg. Royal Geological Society of Cornwall, Ussher Society. Also try making contact with Camborne School of Mines.

Thanks Duncan - and you're right, Google Page Rank of 1 😞 Needs some work on my part...
