Wrexham
Council to order urgent work on Mines Rescue Centre

Wrexham council is to issue an urgent works notice on the owners of a former mines rescue centre.

The council's planning committee was advised to order £14,500 of work to prevent further deterioration and secure the building.

Demolition work was halted in August and heritage body Cadw listed the centre for its "special historic interest".

It is owned by former Wrexham FC chairman Neville Dickens.

The sad part is I believe that the training galleries have been destroyed.
However slap him with as much costs as possible even if he can afford it!

As I understand it, if the owners fail to abide by such a notice within a reasonable time, the council can then get the work done and send him the bill.

Have just checked the relevent section of Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 which says:-

Execution of works required by listed building enforcement notice. E+W.(1)If any of the steps specified in the listed building enforcement notice have not been taken within the period for compliance with the notice], the authority may—.
(a)enter the land and take those steps, and.
(b)recover from the person who is then the owner of the land any expenses reasonably incurred by them in doing so..

Wrexham mines centre owner seeks demolition order

Tbe owner of a mines rescue station partly demolished in the summer now wants the entire building knocked down.

Neville Dickens has put in a planning application for the Wrexham building on behalf of himself and his wife.

Wrexham council is considering whether to prosecute after demolition began in August on the Grade II-listed building.

A consultant hired by Mr Dickens called the Maesgwyn Road building unremarkable and its history could be marked by a photographic record and plaque.

Doesn't mean he will get it though!

An awful lot of locals, myself included, will go to great lengths to ensure it doesn't happen. If it does, it won't be for lack of opposition to it, as many, many people are related to/descended from miners around here, and want the history protected.

That, I don't hold out too much hope for. He's a large landowner around here, and pretty much does what he wants. I would like to e surprised though, and see Wrexham Council grow a spine and prosecute him, he's been riding roughshod over planning etc for years.

But did`nt the Council give him permission a few years back to demolish?
The council is only making a fuss now that CADW got involved,
And they`d watch it fall down, rather than do anything.
