I've got an old tatty safety lamp made by Richard Johnson Clapham & Morris, Manchester, and was wondering if anyone has any information on them.
It has the number 189 stamped on the side together with the initials C.G.C.C.O.
Does anyone have any idea when it could have been made and what the initials could stand for?
Thank you.

Possibly no help at all, but 'Richard Johnson Clapham & Morris' might also be known as 'JCM Lamps'

Richard Johnson & his brother started their business in 27 Dale st. Manchester. They moved to 24 & 26 Lever st. and incorporated Messers Clapham & Morris at this time.
Eventually they were taken over by the Protector Lamp company in about 1947.
They didn't just make lamps, they were wire workers & fabricators. In fact if your lamp is one of those with the sliding bonnet & the makers plate on the top (the type 4), slide the bonnet off and you will see that the plate is stamped on both sides! One saying the makes name & patentees, the other saying 'brass finishers & wireworkers', this side is said to have been put on packing cases! These lamp are known as deflector lamps due to the air deflector between the bonnet and the gauze.

Hello. Thanks for the reply. The plate is stamped both sides. Not sure how to slide the bonnet off though - it's a bit thin and I don't want to ruin it.
Thanks for the background as well.
All the best.

You will usualy find the date stamped on the top of the glass plate, in the manner adopted by Protector - eg 27 means 1927.
