Richard Johnson & his brother started their business in 27 Dale st. Manchester. They moved to 24 & 26 Lever st. and incorporated Messers Clapham & Morris at this time.
Eventually they were taken over by the Protector Lamp company in about 1947.
They didn't just make lamps, they were wire workers & fabricators. In fact if your lamp is one of those with the sliding bonnet & the makers plate on the top (the type 4), slide the bonnet off and you will see that the plate is stamped on both sides! One saying the makes name & patentees, the other saying 'brass finishers & wireworkers', this side is said to have been put on packing cases! These lamp are known as deflector lamps due to the air deflector between the bonnet and the gauze.
