I am looking for images, if not it can be line drawings for mid-19th century Waterwheel driven air Bellows with Compression Cylinders and Storage Receivers. It would be great to have the details of the Wanlockhead Smelter with drawings, but this would be unlikely to be available. It will be for a book I am writing on the known history of the smelter etc.
Also any information on a Mr James Barker Stuart mine/smelter manager for the Duke of Buccleuch.

Hi. You may like to contact the museum at Wanlockhead as they are currently going through the archive. SCRAN has some photos of underground equipment probable from the Wanlockhead archive. I believe a model of the Dukes smelter was shown at the Great Exhibition at Christal Palace but have been unable to confirm this, I think the V and A museum may be able to help. It may be worth getting in touch with the estate archivist as they hold a lot of records associated with the mining at Wanlockhead. Hope this of some help. Jeremy

Thanks Jeremy, I have a record of 1600 oz of silver "bar" being displayed at the Great Expedition from the Meadowfoot Smelter, and all sorts of other info off the Webb. And I have a contact to see at the Wanlockhead Museum later this year.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
