PS I've just had a quick look before SWMBO sails into sight. It all looks very easy. Another thought how about creating an AditNow account so people can load stuff via the site or is there no mileage in that?

Following a suggestion by Toadstone in a separate thread we've created a YouTube account to collate and store mine exploration and mining history related videos clips.

This seemed a good way to do it because YouTube takes care of all the conversion issues and provides a video playback interface that half the world seems to be familiar with.

The hope is that this will build up into a really good collection of videos, both of people's modern day explorations, past explorations (if anybody can face converting from video or other format) and also historic clips that can pass into the public domain.

A YouTube Channel seemed a really sensible way of achieving this.

If anybody wants to submit a video, they can get the login details by sending a PM to Colonel Mustard. From there on it's really simple standard YouTube stuff and your video clip will be uploaded for all to see.

The videos will also show on the existing videos page http://www.aditnow.co.uk/videos/mining-videos.aspx  through a YouTube feed which I will update periodically to reflect new uploads. If we end up with loads of videos I'll split them into logical categories on that page.

I've added a tweak to the forum code so you can now embed YouTube videos in forum messages.

All you need is the unique ID value for the YouTube video clip, you can get this from the 'embed' info for the video clip, or from the video clip web address, for example:

Fu42Ze3sCzg

Paste or type the code into your forum message, highlight it as if you were going to bold or italic it (exactly as you would in Word or any other word processor) and click the new 'YouTube' button.

It should look like this:

[yootube]Fu42Ze3sCzg[/yootube]

(I've deliberately spelt that wrong so the forum code displays how it will look in the message box, otherwise the forum would display the above as the embedded video clip)

And it will appear in the message like this:

[youtube]Fu42Ze3sCzg[/youtube]

To check it works, you can use another feature that's been added, click 'Preview' alongside the 'Submit' button and you can see how your message will look :)

This facility to include YouTube clips in forum posts was added in part due to the way the AditNow YouTube channel is shaping up. But clips do not need to be uploaded to the AditNow channel to be included in this way, you can embed any clip that allows it.

On the subject of the AN YouTube channel, if anybody else has any underground exploration or relevant IA videos they want to upload please drop me or Colonel Mustard a line 🙂 We're also slowly adding other relevant mining related clips to the favourites list!
