Further to the thread on the Canon A640. For those who may not be conversant with what I was trying to explain about multiple exposures and stacking/blending images and then finally stitching them.

Not having a cavern in the back yard I'm going to demonstrate by just doing the shots outside at night, which I did this evening.

All the following shots were taken with a tripod mounted A640 set to T mode @15secs. I used another camera to fill flash the scene. Sorry the subject matter is not interesting !!

These 3 images were then stacked and blended in Paint Shop Pro 9 giving this result.

The camera was then rotated on the tripod and a further two images taken and then these were given the same treatment in PSP9.

Finally the two new resultant images were brought into PhotoVista and the images were stitched.

The purpose of all of this is to show that you don't need vast amounts of kit to produce a reasonable result. Looking at E-Bay tonight the total cost of the camera, tripod, software, a flash gun comes in at under £180. I've rushed the example but I think it helps to give an alternative method of achieving good UG shots.

That is a lot of effort to achieve something that can be done in one shot. I see photoshop and the like as a tool to adjust pictures. If you are using photoshop etc. all the time then you need to learn how to take a better picture. ::)
Isn't it a bit dodgy taking photo's of industrial units at night time? :glare: ::)

Oooops loaded wrong shots, you are quite right. re: identification. The view is from my back yard anyway.

The purpose was not show prowess in taking extremely good photos. I was trying to show quickly that by using a relatively cheap camera with restricted features you could take multiple shots and stitch and blend them, giving a perspective you might not otherwise see and for those who may not be fortunate to get underground an idea of what it is like. I know its not underground but I have combined 2 fields of view without using a wide angle lens. Apart from some sloppy editing on my part you are unable to see the person in the shots. (Good or bad depending on your point of view).

I do not profess to be a professional and I like exploring image techniques, that's what the digital age has brought to everyone. I have not enhanced any of the images, all I have done is to filter information by using the layers facility found in programs like PhotoShop and PSPro. I should imagine there are some aspiring photographers out there who will welcome the info and hopefully develop their own techniques.

BTW I notice from your own website that you tend to tinker with your own photos anyway.

Apart from the photo with three of me (which was my first and only attempt at copy paste) all the other's that have been tinkered with have just been saturation. Because I like black and white pictures, and don't have that setting on my camera.
Oh and I have changed some friends photo's at their request.

Thanks Toadstone for the demo, i have not looked at or even tried to do things like that. While i agree that Clunk has a good point about getting things right first time, there is definately a place for the 'layered' approach. Examples that spring to mind are when your are on your own underground (yes contraversial i know) and unable to move around lighting various bits without being able to cover the lens, or, when limited lighting isnt enough to light all the features that you wish to include in your photo.
I think i will be reading the instructions and start tinkering! :thumbsup:
