Recently purchased this -

http://www.kong.it/en/2-products/items/f18-anchorage-tools/p347-speleagle

My friend has the petzl hammer, and its not bad, however, there isnt alot of flexibility and could have generally been better....

This is a much better piece of kit, the handle is much nicer in the hand, and gives you good grip it has a nice little thumb grip on the top which gives you a good grip in wet and muddy conditions.

It is a nice weight, but small enough to fit in small rigging bags, has plenty of attachment points for hanging it etc.

The only downside I can see is it says it will do 13 and 17mm nuts with the spanner in the bottom, but mine only seems to do 17?!

Other than that very impressed with it...!

Looking at the Kong illustration there is a hex shaped angle in the head - will this do a 13mm?

Ah yes well spotted. I've just got a bolt out of the van and it is quite disappointing actually, the socket attachment on the bottom is 13mm, and the wanky "hex angle" on the top in the head is the 17mm....

I'll have to try it, but first impressions are it is w***, other than that, its a really nice bit of kit, but maybe the 17mm spanner will prove me wrong! Obviously designed for c***** anchors mainly.

Its also powder coated stainless, so should far outlast the petzl ones in a mine environment

What's wrong with a lump hammer? Oh hang on - I remember, "someone" hurled my lump hammer down a shaft!

This is the reason I thought of getting a "proper" hammer, after I watched how careless you were with your lump hammer I thought, "hey, how about getting a hammer that oafs like Rick can't throw down a shaft!"

Why powder coat stainless? As far as I recall stainless is stainless in an aerobic environment. In an anaerobic environment it corrodes much like ordinary steel...
Don't look so embarrassed, it's a family trait...
