This adit which was dug out by us, is a lower one than the other shown previously.
One of our group has carried out historical research, which shows that it had not been entered since the late 1780's.
When we entered the mine we were faced, almost immediately with a flooded sump, and on the other side the way on! I estimated it to be around 1.5m wide, and is completely flooded, probably is around 10-15 m deep.
We live some 130miles from the site, which is about 1.5m from a metalled road, the last half mile or so being rough uphill pasture.
I figured out that I needed to have structure, which was completely portable, yet strong enough, to comfortably go over the sump.
The bridge is made from 2.5m lengths, bolted together then held in place which are coach bolted to make the structure completely rigid.
If anyone needs further details, please get in touch.

Similar to my ladders.

4 X 2 treated carcassing, pre drilled, 1/2 inch refo bar rungs, assembled underground. If you feel you need extra rigidity, top and bottom rungs are all thread through conduit tube.

Lasts for years in normal mines, 12 months in Alltycrib.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
