Never been in the area, and looking for recommendations for half a day of not-too-grovelly bits, ideally with interesting things to see. There looks to be a great deal to choose from. Any thoughts?
Many thanks, Pete

The well-trodden path through Smallcleugh to the Ballroom flat is always worth a first-time look.

From the Ballroom you could then head up to Gypsum Corner and onto Middlecleugh 2nd Sun Vein - some impressive stopes up a climbable hopper

If time permits a wander along M2SV brings you to the incline, then Browngill Vein - climbing another hopper will bring you to Bogg Shaft if you dont mind a gnarly traverse.

Or, Rampgill to Hangingshaws level is an easy if splashy trip, with Prouds Sump Flat (artefact city) only 1/2-hr in. Alternativel, Rampgill Vein (L at Whisky Bottle Corner) just goes and goes, reaching Engine Shaft and Rampgill Shaft via rather stoopy and crawly Norpex digs.

Or, Scaleburn is accessed via Rampgill (signposted inbye)

I agree with Mark, the trio to the Ballroomis a ‘must’ if you have never been to Nenthead.
My guess is you had probably best approach the Nenthead Mines and Conservation society first, in order to have someone direct you where to go!
This mine is one of the biggest accessible disused mines in the country and I am sure that it would be wise to approach the society so that you be directed as to where you are heading
.
Good luck! It is over 50 years since I was first shown the way to the ballroom.
I enjoyed it then and still do!

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
