In May I am going upto the Highlands for a bit of mountain walking but while I am there, I am going to check out a gold mine and also an area that contains a few lead mines. There is also the Wanlockhead area south of glasgow, but despite numerous trips there I have not been able to find any open Adits. Does anyone have any info on any other mines in Scotland ? I believe there may be some in the Edinburgh area ??
Any help or info greatly appreciated..

There's a chap on here who posts occassionally, Bruce, who I think is from Scotland. Possibly if he's reading this he might know.

I need to get a private messaging function sorted don't I... I think people would find it useful.

THATS OUT OF ORDER, I DO NOT DRINK WHISKEY, just Guinness with vodka and lemonade chasers every night of the week, followed by deep fried kebab meat and deep fried Mars bars!! :thumbsup:

I live about twenty miles north of Dundee, the is not much in the way of mines round this area. The is a few slate workings around here but all are very small and open, nothing underground. The is also various open cast quarries but for aggregate use. This area is boring like many of the people living round here, this village I live in should be in Emmerdale, because most of the males round here act like the Dingles in real life. :stupid:

There's a gold mine and various old lead workings near Tyndrum
Also the area round Strontian is interesting for old lead mines and a later Baryte mine that closed in the 1980's
