The Firestone Level is a relatively small part of the Rampgill Mine workings and runs parallel and above the Rampgill Vein for almost its full course. It was driven in 1830 to give better access to the workings and to improve ventilation. A leat from the level was used to feed the Smallcleugh reservoir.

It was driven in 1830 to give better access to the workings and to improve ventilation. A leat from the level was used to feed the Smallcleugh reservoir. The mine closed in 1920 following the removal of the wartime subsidy on raising lead & zinc ores.
