I was up in Penyrorsedd a few weeks ago, having a good explore, and a couple of rock piles near the 'abandoned village' for lack of a better term for it had specks of malachite in it.
Today we went for a wander up the quarry up the public footpath track at the eastern end of Talsarn, passing a blue lake on the right, before some general explorations. I think this is either Twll Coed or Tanrallt, it's quite difficult to work out where you are in AJ Richards.
Although the site is being reworked, the whole area is criss crossed by public footpaths and the 'business end' is well supplied with H&S boards so we kept away from there. But we did come across a lot of samples bearing a lot of malachite - not just a coating, but good lumps. We also noted a lot of mylonite showing striated recrystallisation indicating a fault zone, and there was a pit (not the working one) that had an area where the slate was massive and normal, but with a band where the slate rock was deformed and crushed.
Anyway, an interesting afternoon out.
Given the proximity of Gwernor and the rest of the Nantlle Valley copper concerns, this did raise questions as to the distribution and form of copper deposits here.
