Before it was rebuilt 1990, the kind operators at Cwn Dyli power-station would show you around if you asked nicely. Centrifugal governors and oldy worldy switchgear behind a cage too close for comfort. Being there when a generator spun up and synched (while keeping an eye on the exit route) was a highlight.

Could write a book on the hazards. Cool:lol:

My photos of Cwm Dyli before the re-planting are on here - albeit called "Cwm Dyli Factory" - and yes, they synchronized one of the generators while I was there too - watching the synchroscope dial gradually slow down and then the link switch being thrown in at the crucial moment - terrific thump from the air blast circuitbreakers outside going home and then the operator unconcernedly pulling out the synchroscope wires!
They still had some of the 1906 peltons and Bruce Peebles generators in use.

Maentwrog Power Station was also visitable, also with the original equipment, you could have "eaten your dinner" off the floor as the saying goes. Great times.

The map is the territory - especially in chain scale.

Great visit today, really interesting.

Thanks to our guide Eryl for showing us around and for the really informative chats about everything 'slate-related' in Blaenau.

Yes, good chap is Eryl! Very helpful and full of info. Was a great help to me when I was getting the rail out from the former Miners' Tramway.

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
