What kind of saw would be tensioned by this device?
Sorry, dumb question; I've just opened the enlarged version with description. Cheers.

No I havent actually, not even todays. One thing I did find out thought that worried me slightly is that the quarryface in the main pit had moved again quite significantly, so now most of the adits could only be accessed by climbing up a sheer vertical rockface. But... I did find some nice scales for a couple of weighbridges. Also got some video footage of a excavator dumping a load of rock into one of the rather deep disused quarries.. Ill send it to Simon when I get time.

regards

It could have been removed, but it looks like its in the southern reaches of the workings (old bits)... seems a bit strange just to be dumped on the moorland though!

Doesn't looked dumped to me, it's obviously in the position it last worked at, as it's still on rails and anchored down with slabs. My guess is the wires used for the sawing were very long (description mentions hundreds of feet of wire) and stretched from here to the quarry face.

Not entirely sure, the wire is one of a thin, diamond sawing type. It can be found in large quantaties in some areas of the quarry.

Some types of wire saw used plain wire, and sand was used as the abrasive- it was just fed into the cut. Not sure if this particular example worked that way, or if the wire itself cut the rock.
