Apologies for being a bit late posting this up!

Christmas party this year as usual is at the Royal Oak, Betws y Coed, here:

http://hotel-snowdonia.co.uk

at 8pm on Friday 15th December.

The menu is here:

www.aditnow.co.uk/documents/Personal-Album-7375/Royal-Oak-Party-Menu.pdf

Looks god huh?

Sorry to not have the usual discussions regarding venue and dates but everyone has been so busy this year that we thought we would stick to what we know and make an executive decision on the date
Here's hoping that loads of regulars and new faces can join us. It's always a good night out and great fun all round so please join us if you can.

Please reply to this thread if you can make it and please let me know of any "+1"s. I'll start asking for menu selections later on so no rush to choose.....I just need numbers for now

Er ...

Osculate: kiss

Oscillate: swing from side to side, swing back and forth etc.

Whatever turns you on ...

Well I've learnt something new, and that was unexpected!

Yeah I know but I always thought that "oscillate" went better with "titillate". We can discuss the semantics over a drink at the Christmas Party ;)

Me too. The word "Osculate". I will add it to my vocabulary of 76 words.

Not a very romantic sounding word though is it? I can see why it doesn't get a lot of use, but lets try it out:

Long had they waited for this moment, for they never thought they would see each other again after he was captured by the unicorn army. With tears welling in their eyes, they held each other, he searched down into her wanting eyes, and with the emotion that she tried so hard to hold back, she could only gasp... "Osculate me darling..."

With this, he in an instant became confused and frightened. What had happened to her in these years whilst she yearned for him so? Perhaps she had lost all sense. Maybe even her mind.

He knew he had to do what she needed him to, no matter how absurd. With a purposeful step forward he took her shoulders firmly, and swung her from side to side, then swung back and forth, etc.

Her eyes widened. It did nothing for her. She could not hide her disappointment. What had happened to him? The tragic reality dawned on her, and she could do nothing but turn and flee...

Think I first encountered it in Terry Pratchett's "Monstrous Regiment" where kissing a portrait of the Duchess was supposed to be part of the enrolment procedure, and the rejoining sergeant was asked "care to osculate the doxy?". Definitely the most unromantic word for kissing you could ever find, it makes "snog" look classy!

It actually originates from the other meaning of the word "kiss"...as in an aircraft touching down and immediately taking off, or a racing car just briefly hitting the apex of a bend....that kind of thing.....a brief brush rather than a full on snog!!

I'm not sure I like where this thread is heading....
