This week, the forecast looks glorious so we're continuing where we left off at BrynFelin copper mine near Beddgelert. :)
SRT kit would be a good idea, or just a camera and some midge repellent if you prefer to stay on the surface.

Everyone welcome. :flowers:

Brilliant! Plug the drilly thing into my dodgy wiring and sap up a bit of excess energy. Also bring a flourescent tube and have some free lighting. Not sure where one might plug that tho', only got a single socket???

Have abseiled down the stone lined shaft by old mill. As i remember tunnel to left facing up hill leads to adit by road in field, i think, as this was years ago, that there is a tunnel leading straight ahead and one to the right but can't remember much else. a bit challenged these days.

Hallo Ben.
Are you referring to the tunnel at the very bottom of the lined shaft, after two further ( smaller) pitches? If so that bottom tunnel is now flooded and leads to a collapse. By my/our reckoning it would have lead to the drainage adit in the field by the road as it veers off in that direction.

Cheers.

sounds about right, was a bit damp when i visited. Some open workings further up hill in woods. Appear to be open stope with a step over to a tunnel. Never got round to exploring it. Ithink there maybe others further over to the right aswell.

That's right Ben, there are two distinct lines of open stopes running in parallel. The one we looked at last night is around 100ft deep. We identified the drainage tunnel leaving it but it's half clogged with rotting leaves in waist deep water so we didn't get far enough along to establish whether it joins the main drainage adit below the shaft or further outbye.

Interestingly, there were false floors with openings through into deep water in the stope so they'd clearly been working deeper down and pumping. We haven't seen any sign of a wheel pit on the surface, or anything that look like pump rods so it's all rather intriguing.

Coflein says
"There are signs of other structures associated with the site, notably a horse whim circle, a settling tank and a dressing floor. There is a powder store within a wood to the east of the main workings. There is also an associated leat that provided water to a now destroyed machine house at the mine."

The bottom of the upper stope was an interesting place. Intrigued as to where the drainage adit emerges.

Ascending was equally interesting with the evening finished off with a quote I shall never forget:

" Well if that bit of cake's for me I'm gonna give it to Jase for letting me stand on eez 'ead.."

Now there's recognition. Deffo one for the tombstone ;D:thumbsup:
