Just wanted to mention that the latest edition of the Cwmorthin exploration guide is up on the Cwmorthin page. It shows the position of all the technical bits (pitches, tyroleans, traverses etc) in both veins. It has no historical element and doesn't need it with Grahams excellent composite survey already available.

If you like to explore Cwmorthin then I hope you find it useful!

Yes the Old Vein sure has taken various body parts from me over the past 6 months! Great guide btw.

You can't blame the Old Vein for that important bodily omission mate.

Glad you like the guide.

For those reading, Towim was one of the small team who built a lot of the rigging in the Old Vein.

thanks for posting the edited guide.:)

Was wondering what exactly that entertaining tipper/ bucket/ water tank thing poised above the roofing shaft was ;D

That's my flopjack. It fills from drips roughly every 3 hours and then becomes top heavy and capsizes, sluicing 40 odd litres of water down the shaft. The point has been to clear the mud and debris from the tunnel to stop it dropping on people on the pitch. It's been in for about a year now and cleared the shaft almost back to bare rock.
When done here it might find a new home in the Old Vein.

Well done Miles! Well written and very clear, I'm extremely unlikely ever to trust myself to ropes etc., but if I was, it would be of great use. I like the way you have used the "official" floor names etc., and yet have added interesting names to the new features.

Just wanting to say to anyone who has a copy of this guide and uses it - I have just uploaded a minor update.

It covers the new Bridge of Peril and some other very minor amendments.

Great guide Miles well done
