Came across this adit yesterday while out walking around Coniston & wondered if anyone's been inside. There weren't any photos & nothing in the forums so I assume not, or it wasn't worth mentioning.

I'm planning to have a look inside soon when I get some wellies but thought I'd ask in case anyone knew what's inside or if there are any hidden dangers.

Also, the location on the map is wrong, it should be at SD278984 (SD 27866 98481)

Can't help you myself I'm afraid, but it looks right next to Hospital Level if I'm not mistaken? Not been there since I came out of it when I did the impossible through trip. I do seem to remember there being an adit the other side of the stream, possibly the same one you mention? Not been in it though!

I don't think its the level next to Hospital Level - that's Courtney's Cross Cut which doesn't have any masonry. It might be Brim Fell Level, but have only seen it in the fog so my memory of it is almost non-existent.

I'll change the grid ref tomorrow if nobody beats me to it. Not sure how it's ended up in Mallerstang. Would certainly be more convenient if that were correct... 🙂

Pretty sure it is Brim Fell Level looking at OS maps, just across the footbridge over Low Water Beck into Boulder Valley.

Yes been in there many times. Like every other attempt to find copper ore on Brim Fell this was a failure. The working goes about 100 yards to the forehead with no commercially viable veins of ore found.
There are various other workings into the face of Brim Fell and others deep underneath it. Non were productive so it seems strange that so many attempts were made and so much money lost and effort wasted.
Strictly speaking these are all "Trials" not mines, as they only tried to find copper, but failed.

Thanks, some nice photos there. I'll have a wander in soon then, maybe get some photos from inside looking out

Disclaimer: Mine exploring can be quite dangerous, but then again it can be alright, it all depends on the weather. Please read the proper disclaimer.
