A surface wander this week, to make the most of the Great Welsh Summer
A visit to Gorseddau, near Porthmadog, has been mentioned a few times but we have never got around to actually going so now's the chance.
Meet up at the dam carpark, here:
http://www.flashearth.com/?lat=52.974714&lon=-4.150838&z=18&r=0&src=msl at 1815 and we can see if the gate is open, what condition the tramway is in these days and how brave we feel driving up. A little Fiat Panda 4x4 should be man enough for the job. Hi Simon!
Info on the tramway here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gorseddau_Tramway The tramway alone needs a day to check out from end to end so we'll skip most of it this time...
So plenty to see if we get a move on. Up to the quarry, check out the famous hanging wall, back down via the "ghost village" 😢 and stop off at the disused mill on the way back. The mill alone, itself a listed building, is worth seeing....
http://www.penmorfa.com/Slate/pontypandy.html Nothing underground here, sorry, just a really nice walk so minimal gear required. I'll bring the brew kit, if someone could remember to bring a spare lighter.... DOH!!
