I get the impression that the dog fell into one of the cracks which opened up after the Great Fall of 1884. The video on the Daily Post page seems to be of a different rescue.

The ground up there is indeed treacherous with many cracks obscured by vegetation.

I did much the same thing when i was up there last. there was a very narrow crack obscured by vegetation and i put my leg down it up to the knee. Could easily have broken something if i'd fallen akwardly. The photo i took after shows a thin line snaking through the vegetation which, looking back at the photos, is i believe, the crack i put my foot in. It seem to open up below, as I put my arm down it and coudn't feel the sides. Wish i had had some means of measuring the depth. I don't think I would be able to find it again to measure it. It was almost certainly in the old lake bed, and there was some huge cracks you coudn't miss near by.

on second thoughts, don't think i will be going up there again

Could actually be Conclog. Up there with the Thursday Nighters a couple of weeks ago and saw a VERY similar hole to the one pictured. We think it's a roofing shaft out to grass - very small and easy to miss and fall into but opens out inside...

Apparently it was the second canine dog rescue this year.

I see the owner blamed the dog's near demise on bilberries. 😮

There were as it happens bilberries (or something much like them) growing amongst the outcrops above Conglog two or three weeks ago.

Not the most fascinating dollop of information granted but there you go...

It's interesting that it was 2 mountain rescue teams that attended and not NWCRO. Was this an error within the Police call centre? Either way, the pooch was rescued successfully, which was a great result.:thumbup:
