I did much the same thing when i was up there last. there was a very narrow crack obscured by vegetation and i put my leg down it up to the knee. Could easily have broken something if i'd fallen akwardly. The photo i took after shows a thin line snaking through the vegetation which, looking back at the photos, is i believe, the crack i put my foot in. It seem to open up below, as I put my arm down it and coudn't feel the sides. Wish i had had some means of measuring the depth. I don't think I would be able to find it again to measure it. It was almost certainly in the old lake bed, and there was some huge cracks you coudn't miss near by.
on second thoughts, don't think i will be going up there again
