On Sunday two small groups drove up the track towards the mine at different times. One of the groups was met by a farmer on a quad bike, who was not pleased to see them in a vehicle, though he had no objection to them going down the mine as long as they walked there.
What is the access situation re using the track to the mine please?
Interestingly the second group reported seeing other vehicles up there including obvious sightseers.

There has been hassle before with a local farmer, even when permission to use the track and the parking had been agreed with the people who laid the road. (A WMS meet)
My belief is that the land is common land but a local group has 'taken control' of it although they have dubious legal authority.

If I was accosted up there I would just tell the bloke to Foxtrot Oscar

Unless the land on which the road was laid was owned by them that laid the road,they would not be in the position to grant any permissions.
Common land is owned,and the commoners[farmers] have rights over this land under the commoners act.

It's a Byway Open to All Traffic from the Trawsfynydd/Bala road through to Tomen y Mur. From the junction at Dolddinas (the ruined house on the flat by the river) up to the mine it is not.

It's Crown land and I think there are 6 commoners. Some don't mind people driving up , but a couple of them don't.

On the WMS meet we were parked well before Dolddinas, it was I believe the parking space created for vehicles belonging to the pylon people who had laid the road. We walked the rest of the way up to the mine.

That was were we were accosted, hence my rather aggressive attitude.

Let's face it anyone seeking an argument knows that a Series Land Rover driver allways has a starting handle, jack handle and a couple of half shafts under his seat.
No arguing with that! :o
As for anyone towing a Sankey as well! :devil:

Possibly seeing nine or more 4x4s crossing land where there isn't a right of way might have caused the current problem?

We were actually there with permission John....
Part of an organised visit by a rather well known chap in the area. 😉 so perhaps unlikely.

I have been there on a few occassions and each time we drove all the way to the mine, never having any problems, except once when a farmer did stop us and ask Miles what he was doing. Miles quickly informed him that we were going to the mine and he did not seem bothered.

I think the farmers are more concerned about green laners, ruining the road surface.
