Seems unusual for a proposed business venture group to be so loose tongued?

Oh no 😞 Would be a real, real shame to lose access to Moel Fferna. Thanks for the info Steve.

And I agree Morlock, seems odd to be talking about a new venture in advance like that, particularly if they've not got everything signed off yet?

Sounds like a lot of a pipe dream to me! I think you might see this kind of thing more often as of late, with the success of all the underground adventures you can do these days. Everyone will want to try cash in and likely fail.

I think it's probably BS as well matey.

However, if it does happen, I can see a lot of people being rather unhappy about it.

With the success of the development at Llechwedd and Corris I can see people getting interested in copycat ideas.

Access on the road up to the mine will be interesting!

I remember going up to the mine in the early 1970 s in a Landy you could get into the level and walked a cross the bridge without lifelines. Roofs were still on the cutting sheds and most of the surface buildings were in decent condition. The track could useable again with some investment however the road from the A5 up is never going to be great for anything more than light traffic as a business would be a dead loss.

I did hear however by the village there is a plan for the Berwyn? slab quarry and buildings to be restored and for a hydro scheme. The slate from The mine was taken down by small lorries on that side of the hill so maybe there is a significant plan to link the two projects

Unless you collected the punters somewhere else and ferried them up to the mine in a fleet of ancient Land Rovers....

Nah, can't see that ever working.

Have been able to drive up there a few times over the years, I was under the impression that for the last few years the gates have been welded, rusted shut? The farmer was always great with us but he must have took a turn.

Did anyone ever take him down lol as that was always the deal.
Ironing 2 miles deep into a system? you obviously dont understand.

Slate was originally brought from Moel Fferna and Deeside quarries by a tramway system. Traces of the iron-plated wooden rails were in existence when I was there in 2010.

There was significantly more (including that lovely horse-shoe) with wooden rails until some bright spark decided to convert that section into an access road about 25 years ago. It is a pity it wasn't a Scheduled Ancient Monument (or at the very least listed).

guilty as charged!

was my first srt trip and remember having a call out time well before we eventually surfaced! Had rained all day and the walk back was in torrential rain. i recall towim having a lift back down but DP, Marty, Miles me and possibly some others had to walk back in the dark.

Marty, me, you and miles got stuck on the road up in Miles' little car and had to be towed to the gate by a certain gentleman from the north east.

it did take ages to get out though! :flowers:

How do you get stuck there? Turbosteves motor gets up there (even with logs attempting to remove sumps!), and it certainly doesn't have a high ground clearance.
