Hi all,
Please note, the shale falls in Caplecleugh Horse Level have shifted again. Myself and a friend passed through them today, some sizeable slabs appear to have fallen, with more poised to move.
It is still passable, but extreme care would be wise.

It's not just there either. New Years trip to barons flats to find lots of fresh moving

Thanks for the posting.
It is a well known fact that the roofs, of the Nenthead mines are not particularly stable, and as a result are constantly moving.
The hope is, that explorers note the changes, they have seen, and post them on AN, so that we all can benefit from their experiences.

The section through Carr's always was tight, not sure how it could get much tighter... Carr's, Middlecleugh 1st Sun are still shifting, anyone who can remember going up to Cowhill Cross in the 80's can testify to, from the fall at Gypsum Corner it was a straight walk right up...

Being a frequent visitor to the mines, and Caplecleugh in particular, I understand how loose some sections of it are.
The fall in question looks very different to what it was like in November.
It may well be worth someone a bit more informed than myself heading down for a look.

Raining again today! The Wear and Rookhope Burn are rising again. Frosterley Bridge closed pending inspection, some footbridges damaged or washed away, the rebuilt river wall at Nenthead went in one go on the storm night, landslips on the steeper hillsides, and the RangeRover is still in the river at Rookhope.

Hows the bridge over to the garage at Rookhope?

I noticed last year the supports were being undermined.

Yes, both Rookhope bridge and the Range Rover are still there

Many of the large rock armour blocks have been washed out just downstream of Rookhope Garage bridge so there's a nice little job for the council if they're not too busy flattening Grove Rake.

Just to swerve back on-topic, do let us know if any work parties are organised for Caplecleugh, I'm sure I can spare a day!

3 of us did the Greater Nenthead Traverse yesterday, a trip we enjoyed immensely! However, there's a shale collapse in CC Low Level about half way between the top of the incline, and the toilet block junction which we initially thought had blocked the passage. I had to brush aside some loose shale to get through, so I suspect it's changed recently. It's just possible to slide through without touching the ceiling, but it's clearly going to come down some time soon causing a total blockage. The hanging ceiling slab is very large, and you definitely don't want to be underneath it when this happens. Extreme caution advised!
