Well its been a good few weeks since I got out on a Thursday evening, due to holidays and birthday celebrations etc so I'm looking forward to this week!

A return trip to Benallt is called for I think? To try out the new, improved, extended maypole!

Lets meet up in the lay-by at the usual place, here:

http://www.flashearth.com/?lat=53.057405&lon=-4.18398&z=20&r=0&src=msl

at around 1815?

A few of us are away this week, so not sure who we have available, but so far it is:

Me
Simonrl

and Special Guest Star, Pingu. Welcome home mate. ;D

Erm...any more?? Any new faces fancy an evening out? ;D

Oh, and its a bit wet in there so bring a change of clothes!

See you all there! Cant wait!:thumbsup:

I'll be there.

Should add that SRT kit is needed. (Or a very strong stomach.)

Please let me know as I was absent from previous plays at this site 🙂 🙂

Hi Corin, good to hear from you.

Yes please! :flowers:

Getting back onto the top of the maypole is likely to be tricky so a backup plan would involve bolting and abbing down. 20m of rope would be more than enough to allow it to be pulled through and retrieved.

I'm a bit out of touch with what's been going on there over the last few weeks so I'm looking forward to some catching up. The bolt fairy has been, along with the welly fairy but alas not the rope fairy but I'll bring the old faithful "Indian Rope Trick" along with me

Well that was another enjoyable trip into this surprising little mine. Nice to have Pingu and Corin back with us, ladened with goodies. Thanks! :flowers:
The mayple was successfully extended to reach the shelf which is now bolted for SRT ready for our return next Thursday. Yes folks, there's more!

Some time between 10.30 and 11.00pm we heard three distant rumbles that had us puzzled. No earth tremors appear to have been reported. Rock movement somewhere? An echo from the valley below? The sound of thunder heard through an adit? Did anyone else hear anything?

Indeed a surprising little mine, it goes on and on. Water and climbs even blue polypropylene.

I still say 'rock movement' was the rumble.

At excellent trip, one level gained Brilliant, next Thursday (I hope I make it)

Annoyed to have missed it, but had to work. Sounds like you've done the hard work though 😉

Did you come out via dead sheep passage or back down and out? Not sure I can bring myself to crawl over those bags again!

Don't worry Simon, there's plenty more hard work to do, especially if we're hoping to come out at the top! I had a look on the outside up there and couldn't find any obvious openings...

Yes we left via the DSP which isn't getting any nicer.

Perhaps we should rig a pull through so that we can ab directly from that level to the bit near the top of the waterfall. Ross suggested a spot that would lend itself to a nice Y-hang. That would bypass the fiddly bit with the chain ladder and give us an exit almost as quick as the DSP.

BTW, hats off to you for your work last night! Looks perfect from here.

Hmmm...yes we came out through "Dead Sheep Adit"...a real eye-opener. 😞 I won't let it put me off though, as I think this place has a few more secrets left to see. Like Corin said, it just goes on and on. Really nice.
Next week if we had a few bits of gash rope, then we could rig up the pitches and ab back out? I've left a 20m length of 11mm rigged on the latest pitch (from "Dead Sheep Level" up one floor). I'd be happy to do more to avoid crawling out through the corpses! Not a lot of bolting required, drill steels firmly stuck in the walls all over the place.
I'll post up a trip for next week and see how far it goes.

@ Pingu: if we rigged it all up, the youngsters could do it as a through trip next month? Nice little trip to fill an afternoon.

Nice idea. I'd suggest a length of old rope at the bottom of the timbered shaft too, along the wall to clip onto while negotiating all that loose stuff.

Yep . Few steel pegs there to rig off. Safe as houses!

Great to be back with you folks:thumbup: I have some odd lengths of rope in my rigging kit so will bring them along. Also have some scaff for maypole supports, will try to get some clamps locally but if anyone else can "gain" some that would be good. See you all on Thursday.
