I'm sure many of you will know of the on-going project to digitize and make available on-line the collection of aerial photgraphs taken by "Aerofilms" between 1919 and 1953. I've been keeping an eye on it over the last year or so and was reminded of it by an open air exhibition of some of the photos in Birmingham the other week. Some spectacular, and interesting shots of North Wales have now been released, in particular a set of images of the Blaenau quarries area.

These are in the range:

up to WAW047546

or you can browse...or search for "quarry." There's another good set of Penmaenmawr. I've lost quite a few hours just wandering about looking at places. Try WAW023341 for the caravan sites between Kinmel bay and Abergele in 1949.

Registration on the site is free, and you can zoom right into the images - the detail on some is fantastic.

Cheers

The map is the territory - especially in chain scale.

I would also agree, and for the Cornish there are some good images of Camborne and South Crofty.
If it can't be grown it has to be mined.

OK, I give up. How do I zoom in? I've tried Chrome, Firefox, and as a last resort, IE. None give me that option.

You need to register first. Then, once you have signed in, the zoom tool is available.

As has been pointed out you need to register to be able to zoom. Always remember to 'Open in new tab' or when you bo 'Back' you will be back to the map of the whole UK.

Once registered you can add pins and comments on places on the map as well as add additional comments to ones already there.

There are many groups on different topics and it is easy to set up new ones.

In Galleries there are new additions which is worth a check through if you have been on the site previously.

There are many unidentified images there as well.

There are many more images on the NCAP website but you need a subscription to zoom into those.
