Halfway through January...where does the time go??!

Following last week's successful mission to Cwmorthin, doing a little light housework tidying up the miners' steps followed by a spot of SRT just for fun, we have decided to return this week and finish the job.
Not so much housework to do this week should give us much more time to spend playing on ropes and STILL be out in time for a kebab.
We also need to discuss the upcoming "project".....Pingu will bring us up to speed on this one....

How does that sound?

Meet up at Cwmorthin Carpark, here:

http://www.flashearth.com/?lat=52.98996&lon=-3.963529&z=17.1&r=0&src=msa

at the usual 1815 ish.

Attending so far we have:

Myself
SimonRL
Willy Eckerslyke
Pingu
Possible Hymac ;D
Martymarty
Skimble
Carlin
Blober

666jay? nova turbo? Chrisj?

Any more? Anyone seen Strangely Brown....? He appears to have disappeared....are you out there??

Any new comers fancy a night out? PM me if you are unsure 😉

See you all there! 😉

I'm a possible for Thursday as long as I don't have to wear a French maid's outfit. 😮
What does this week's SRT involve?

I last saw Strangely Brown on NYE at which time he was wrestling with a fallen tree on a rooftop in Porthmadog.

No need. I'm wearing mine and it would be bad form for us both to turn up in the same outfit 😉

This week's SRT involves going down and then up 😉

Well I could make this thursday so long as I don't get out too late! ;)
I have recently done some SRT though if that's the main cause of the trip I may have no borrow some cowstails, D ring thing and a piece of string to slow my descent on rope...

I'll bring my spare descender and a D shaped maillon or two.

For the steps, we found that the mud is very hard packed but came up nicely when persuaded. Our crappy folding spades were tested almost to their limits. The proper gardening spade fared better, so more of the same recommended. They can be left at the top afterwards and collected on the way out.

I am told that it could involve ascending a pitch of 250 ft or thereabouts (four floors).

Hard to guarantee. But if we let some other mug go first, they'll find out.

I've been looking at Graham's map trying to work out which chamber we have in mind. Not sure if it's 6 East Back Vein...

Which pitch are we talking about? The one on the left on the way to the drop to the lost world? Bit of a step up into a step manway - bolts in the roof about 2/3 of the way down the manway?

That's the one. Can you confirm where it goes?

I bolted in back in 2007.

It drops you down on C floor, around chamber 7E or 8E back vein.

From there it's a scramble / slide to D floor and another to E. Quite a lot of nice artifacts to see, and some period graffiti.

The bolts are 3 x 12mm stainless Petzl so should still be good. There's another bolt at the takeoff point (not one of mine) which flexes a bit - I think it's one of those thunderbolt jobbies. When we originally did it we used tackle bags as rope protectors and ran the rope over the edge.

Total drop is around 70m IIRC.

To be honest it's a big enough trip for a Thursday night without the housekeeping as well

Here's Fuzz - first chap over the edge:
