Trip report - of sorts!

Location: Cwt y Bugail Slate Quarry

Suspects: Blober, Corin, Hymac580c, Llion, Willyeckerslyke, Pingu, SimonRL, Sinker

The main objective of the evening was to get thoroughly damp and miserable by investigating the outby end of the C floor adit, accessed from this very nice arched portal:

Sinker had already waded to the end of this level and assured us we were guaranteed special ladies, a entire stable of calcified horses and a quarry loco still in steam...

Unfortunately it delivered tummy-deep artic water, a decidedly iffy roof and a blockage.

So we headed off to the pit and the lower section of chambers - 2 of which are open to daylight.

I'd not been to CyB for years, and managed to miss most things of interest last time around.

A few piccies...

Eastern-most chamber - see if you can spot the stitch-drilled bit:

Looks like a good trip, shame the calcified horses crumbled away before you could get the camera out.

Lovverly stuff.

How common are false floors in slate mines? Not sure I was aware of any.
Been injured while at work and are not to blame?

Get over it.

Great photos, obviously a good trip! I liked the shards from where the chanelling machine had been working...I have never spotted those before in Cwt-y-Bugail... strange that there isn't any evidence of the machine working anywhere else in the mine...they had one at Rhiwbach...perhaps it was on trial in the early 1900's?

The floor of B2 has a small wooden false floor, really a bridge as you go in through to the chamber. I can't think of any other false floors in slate mines that I've been in.
cheers,
Iain
