Sorry to jump in ....

Is there a planned trip to Bog Mine (Llanferres) ?

I PM'ed Sinker but no reply - is he away perhaps ?

I was asked by our trip organiser (UCET) to liaise as she thought we were meeting with you to show you where it is ....

Currently we have 6:30pm down at the layby just past the Druid Inn at Llanferres (same layby all the climbers use for climbing at Pot Hole Quarry).

But, I am not sure if there is a trip on as there hs been no post ..... does anyone know ?

😉

Morning Ian

Sorry I have been off the radar for a couple of days, usual problems of work overtaking social life and Mrs Sinker has not been too well which hasn't helped 😞
Thanks for the offer! I'm certainly free tomorrow night and most of the others are too I hope? :flowers:
I'm sure that we will turn out if you are free to show us the way?

@ The Thursday Nighters: my apologies for the lack of notice. We were planning on being in this area this week, so who fancies taking advantage of the kind offer and having a wander around "Bog"? Plenty to see and its not THAT wet! 😉 Or muddy... 😉 😉 Nice ladders too! Who's in?? :flowers: :flowers:

@ Ian: stand by and thanks again!

Phil.

Thanks Phil .... I am on "Standby" 😉

Ian

(If it's too short notice, it is easy enough to arrange it on another Thurs) 🙂

Nice one, thanks Ian. :flowers:
I'm in.

For those of us who are new to the area, is that heading West? 50yds? 500yds?

About 50m on the Ruthin side of Druid Inn on the A494, Llanferres city centre.

It's the one just a fraction further on, here;

http://www.flashearth.com/?lat=53.128949&lon=-3.216049&z=19.3&r=0&src=msa

There is more space and it's the one the climbers use to walk topot hole quarry 🙂

If you've got room for one more, Llanferres is within 'Thursday range' for me.

Just to clarify, I take it this is a pedestrial (non-SRT) trip?

Cowstails are a good idea, but no vertical shenanigans.

They are a good idea.

There is a knotted rope descent in a winze, it isn't vertical - but it isn't far off it. 😉

At the bottom level, towards the end, the floor is missing and the stope below is flooded to level height. It is passable by standing on wooden stemples just under the water - this isn't a great idea (obviously) but there is a fixed line in for tails. The water will become murky as the first person goes over so you can't see where to stand - no tails = you are going in.

You can stop at this point (just before the missing floor) or continue past and work your way through and up towards another shaft (New shaft?) but ultimately you are coming back out the way you went in.

If I can manage it, most people can.

Yeah, wasn't a fan of that if I have to come back the same way.

Minor change to the evening ....

I have cleverly managed to splice a finger open and now have two fingers bandaged and strapped together which will stop me using ladders (and most other things).

I will still be at the meet point to meet everyone 🙂

We have another big project on (it's a cave) and our numbers for this evening were "thin" because of it so, if too few other members arrive we will show you where the entrance is and just leave you to wander around yourselves (much more fun than having a guide anyway) - you can't get lost :smartass: If enough UCET turn up they will still go in with you anyway 😉
