I have just read the UKCaving posts and dead right, we want to keep this sort of thing off aditnow.
However something occurs about making a bed and having to lie on it

I was first introduced to caving politics in the 1970s, when after starting in the Peaks, I first went to Mendips where it seems, then as now to be particularly virulent.

Life's too short. I have long since settled on a policy of avoiding those involved, doing more useful things with my time and taking any opportunities which come along.

Yes, ranting and raving achieves nothing. I joined this site not too long ago and as others have said, it's more a gentlemanly place to discuss findings and share useful info.

I used to drive to work from Mold and passed OG when it was working. I remember seeing the headstock sheaves rotating and actually visited the processing plant one evening and seeing the galena being broken down and then shaken off the Wilfleys. Never got underground but would love to visit someday, there's just so much to be seen.

Here's hoping...

Well, there is a place for politics in what we do, but there are two kinds of politics - there's the mature adult kind, and then there's the childish sort. What we have here is definitely the latter!
My trip to this site was my first serious underground trip after some years of little activity. One thing I recall is increasingly being left behind as we walked through the flowing water. The effort of pushing my legs through the water showed me how much muscle strength I had lost by not keeping active. What's worse, is we were walking DOWNstream!

Oh dear Peter, I am 68 and every morning practice the splits.
I bet just thinking of this will bring tears to your eyes

I'd like to think I have got better now - except I've messed up a knee recently, but although I ought to be resting it, I can't resist opportunites to get underground when they come up... 😞

I am taking this way off thread but it may help someone who has trouble with their legs, forget doctors.

If anyone has trouble in that their legs ache at the knees after just a small amount of walking and it’s getting worse it may be because their legs won’t straighten properly. Consequently, when they walk their legs never straighten so it’s like walking with your knees bent all the while.

Sit on the floor with your legs out straight; you should be able to push your knees down to the floor. Grasp your toes with each hand from the top, and force your legs down to the floor. Someone who is really supple will be able to raise their heels.
Flexibility in the knees should be both ways, you should be able to touch your bum with your heels. If not try kneeling on the edge of your bed one leg at a time so as to touch your bum with your heel.
Try these every day say in the morning without fail; and see the results in three months.

Sorry about the ‘off thread’.

Hi Roy & All

I'm 62 and had a new right knee earlier this year. I know what you mean about flexibility. I've been having to do similar exercises since + a bike and rowing machine in the gym. Can thoroughly recommend 1. A new knee (old one had eventually suffered total cartilage failure from an injury some 30+ years before) and 2. Those exercises.

Good as new now and rarin' to get back into Cwmorthin - and OG if it ever happens... 🙂

Sorry to kick the elderly ailments post a little further down the road. Roy's stretching exercise is a good one (used as a Yoga posture), but do be aware that you should not strain yourself and stop if there is any pain particularly in the back. I have arthritis in both feet and knees, but simple walking and pushing against a wall to stretch the tendon at the back of the leg (used by runners) is good and safe.

Oh dear is it getting worse on there. I had better take a look. me misunderstand.

EDIT
Just been on UKC and can see what is happening.
I have to stay out of this sort of thing lest it reflect on CMT.

If Newstuff was involved in the 'lock-in' episode (if it happened) then his passion is quite understandable.

If some one/some club had done that to me, nothing short of the lightly braised liver of the person concerned served on a bed of sauteed onions would suffice to placate me.

A website that documented the Milwr tunnel and associated workings that was about 10 years or so ago was what inspired me to begin exploring old mine workings. I did initially join the GCC but being on my own with a toddler I never quite managed to attend anything..... ::) A short while later I joined WCMS as their trips were more realistic to attend. I missed a couple of opportunities for a trip into Milwr over the years and then access was lost.

It remains somewhere I would greatly like to visit (although once again over the last year new restrictions on my time have appeared ::) ) so some discussion of how realistic this latest "news" of possible restored legitimate access is would be of interest, politics aside :surrender:

Have to say that if I was the landowner/UU/whoever and I'd read the UK Caving thread then nobody would be getting into my mine, regardless of which side ultimately proves to be wrong or right. A public forum simply isn't the place to wash your dirty linen & the discussion & arguments in said thread are doing little more than dragging the reputation of cavers & their clubs in NW Wales through the muck.

I've chopped a few more posts on here which weren't helping matters and were starting to annoy a number of people. Again apologies to all concerned etc... 🙂

I can confirm that this happened. specifically, the entrance was a crawl in (still is) but was "open". Whilst a party was inside (with a female newbie who took some coaxing to get in) the entrance was barracaded with a large wire mesh with boulders placed up against it making exit difficult (but obviously not impossible).

WRT Roys comments about flexibility, looking at his avatar, shouldn't be a problem! 😉

WRT the debate on the forums, I tend to compare this site to the house of lords, as compared to the rabble in the commons in the other house, more sense and order!!

WRT the subject of the OP, is there a case for the intervention of the access officer of the CCC to approach all parties involved with the peace offering of BCA third party indemnity insurance and the "personal risk" agreement, as used in the Peak District (usually successfully) on numerous occasions?
Always remember, nature is in charge, get it wrong and it is you who suffers!.

Agree 100%, why think about moving things forward when you can have more fun writing sweary emails and slagging each other off.

Perfect ammunition for UU to tell all groups to sling their hook for good.
