Put 3 new military grade ropes (Kindly donated by Go-Below Underground Adventures) and a few new malions in all of the abseils in Croesor/Rhosydd for future through trips so when you do it, use the new black ones, don't use the other sheite that's in there. All nice and safe .....for now!! :flowers:

On Saturday 8th June 2013 a group of us from Morley Potholing Club did the Croesor – Rhosydd through trip (CRTT) and it was found, on inspection, that the new black SRT rope on the 2nd pitch had already been damaged and then knotted at a point about 5m above the bottom of the pitch.

We therefore used one of our own SRT ropes to do a pull-through on this pitch and have pulled up the black rope to the pitch head to make the knot obvious to future teams.

So, as always, make sure you take your own ropes and use the deviation to avoid rope rub. Also ensure that your rope pulls though easily before the last member of your team descends. I left a warning message scratched on a slate (seemed an apt writing material!) at the Croesor entrance.

At the time of writing the new black rope on the 1st pitch seemed fine, as did the in-situ pulley + zip-wire, suspension bridge and rigging for the next bridge, traverse and final bridge (we used 2 double pulleys on this last bridge).

At the long lake the short abseil (new black rope) and canoe were OK as was the short ascent rope at the far side. (Note that the canoe is now equipped with a long length of pull-back cord on either side of the lake rather than the previous endless loop system – make sure that the cord doesn’t get tangled). Don’t forget life-jackets + buoyancy bottles for tackle bags and make sure you INSPECT EVERYTHING BEFORE USE!

An excellent trip again and many thanks to ‘martymarty’ for installing the new ropes – shame that the 2nd pitch rope has been trashed already.

Cheers.

Mike
