Pant y Wrach is a good trip, although it's not a top to bottom through trip.
Referencing Robin's survey linked above, either go in at the top and ab down two pitches; or go in at the middle level which is easy enough to find.
Leaving Penrhyndeudraeth on the A4085 there is a right hand turning into a narrow single lane tarmac road on the right about 200 to 300 yards after crossing the Ffestiniog railway. A short way along this lane is a layby on the right, this often contains piles of wood chippings. The middle level is almost vertically above this, slightly back towards Penrhyn about 100' up the hillside. There is a small stream coming out of it.
The middle level passes through Roy's dig and the level itself is very interesting.
Maybe somebody can correct me on this but from memory a single 50m rope isn't quite enough to drop from the middle level to the bottom. I think we tried it with a single 50m rope and found it was short by a few m on the last pitch. Two ropes, one of about 35 to 40m and one of about 20m would do. Apologies if this sees you taking more rope than you need, but I'm sure we found 50m wasn't enough.
We re-bolted it, and didn't leave hangers, so you'll need to take 6 x 12mm hangers and nuts. The original bolts and hangers are there still though. If you use them then give them a check first since we found 1 or 2 were spinning and 1 could be pulled out.
The new bolting is in 3 stages; top to intermediate level (containing a few nice artifacts), then a non-vertical very easy pitch to some timbers across the stope and the head of the final vertical drop.
There's not much to see on the bottom floor to be honest, some good mud formations and depressions where track has been removed. And possibly a few shiny things that got dropped and due to time we decided to collect another time...
Take care if exploring on the surface at the very top. There are a number of places where what appears solid ground is very thick undergrowth over open stopes.
Have a good trip :)
Oh and the takeoff of the 1st (or 3rd if not using Roy's dig) isn't as bad as it looks. It looks more solid when viewed from the underside. At which point it's too late to worry about it anyway!
