Something a little different, or more laid back perhaps, this week.... 😉
We have a couple of guys who are practicing and improving their SRT skills, so in order to prepare them for future suicide missions, we are having a mini-SRT practice / messing about session :thumbsup: .
Let's try Cwmorthin, as there are a few nice gentle little drops, and of course plenty to see while we play around.
I have two complete SRT rigs, and also some odds and ends, spare harnesses, rope etc so lets go and play!
The usual crowd will be in attendance, minus simonrl who is currently somewhere much warmer and drier than North Wales! Anyone else who fancies a muck-about is of course more than welcome to join us, let me know if anyone else needs to borrow kit and we'll see what we can rustle up! Cwm car park at 1815 then! See you all there! :thumbsup:

That sounds good, guessing its for either hand use?

You're the only left-hooker that I know, sorry!

This will open an online debate on SRT kit preferences, but here goes...."I prefer a basic ascender to a hand ascender"...there I've said it 😉 . You can get both your hands around it (left or right-handed) and I feel they are easier to use and also keep you more vertical on the rope. I'll demonstrate when I see you, then it will make sense :thumbup:

I chose a left hand ascender on the logic that it leaves your right hand free to do other things. 😉
I still haven't decided if it was a good decision, but I'll have it with me so Blober's welcome to share.

Ah yes I forgot that yours is a LH.
As a matter of interest, I find the biggest difference when using LH or RH gear is the ease of clipping it on and off the rope?

I'm still somewhere warmer and dryer than North Wales too and wondering why my french phrase book doesn't contain stuff I need such as "a mouse has eaten my fuel tank", "I need 12 meters of 50 X 50 X 3 aluminium angle section" and "are you sure this is cheese? it looks more like degrading gelignite" :lol:

Light thinks it travels faster than anything but it is wrong. No matter how fast light travels, it finds the darkness has always got there first, and is waiting for it.

I use a right, but I curl the fingers of my left hand around the top of the ascender. I also find that with a Basic, I end up down-prussiking when I shove it right under the knot, and can't get it off the rope (Usually accompanied by copious amount of profanity directed towards the ascender when I do it... again). I daresay that a little practice with it would sort that out though. Horses for courses, and everyone is different.

Toulouse is where I get metric aly from and it's no longer warmer than North Wales, been working in a tee shirt all day, went to bed with the window open, woke to an inch (25.4mm) of snow and a biting wind. Enjoy tomorrow's exploits, any plans for next Thursday yet?
