The opencuts at Pikelaw are very interesting for as can be seen from the photograph, vein minerals may be seen in situ.
Largely, quartz, interspersed with ironstone but also galena, and as such is one of the few places in the dales, where these minerals can be observed on surface.
Incidentally Dunham thought that this area would be a potential drilling prospect.
