All help, comments (not rude!) any thing usefull would be gratefull.
Me and my wife have a litle experiance in caving and srt. a little guidance would be most helpfull, we are in burnley area and are members of B.C.C. local mines and grid refs hazards etc.....would welcome any help. Regards Ron & Patsy :angel:

they say I am easy! I guess wales,lakes or thereabouts was at greenside mine cumbria on sat. :thumbsup:

Wales-shed loads to choose from!
Lakes and Cumbria-several folks on here know the places well. You may have to wait until the morning to get a reply from them though!

Would be good to visit somewhere like Wrysgan initially, then you will appreciate the bigger stuff (Cwmorthin perhaps) with miles of tunnels, huge chambers and some nice artefacts.

As for Cumbria well....

There are a lot of interesting slates mines worth looking at, some very impressive... and most don't involve any kind of tackle. As for metal mines.. there are several around of interest though many require SRT. If you want any more info just ask.

Erm.. as for mineral I'm not sure...
For slate.. definatly Hodge Close.. it's very easy to access, and has several safe, interesting levels and chambers worth looking at. You may alsol like old man quarries on the coniston old man.. though this involvs ascending a mountain to reach them but...
both are on this website: just search Old Man orHodge Close
There are not by any means the only ones, though many of the other ones such as Honister are still being worked. You might find Rigghead interesting.. that's on this site too.

A good metal mine for beginers in Cumbria/Lakes is Carrock (search for it on AN or ME) 😉

Also loads of mines to get stuck into at Nenthead (Nr Alston).

The Cumbrian slate mines are generally much smaller than the Welsh ones & do not contain so many artefacts - I would stick to Wales if you want cool slate mines:)

As for our Welsh slate mines, if ever you're around in N Wales then post here and I'm sure somebody would be more than happy to show you around.

Barney's suggestions of starting with somewhere like Wrysgan is a good idea. Cwmorthin is a fantastic mine and there are lots of others dotted around as well as some good metal mines!

certainly given me plenty to think about! wow.
I will see how much i can find out about the one in the lakes 1st and hopefully go the sunday after next ...all being well.

well if you ever come up north, we have an SRT Training tower at the club house you are welcome to call on thursdays about 8 pm we can provide srt kit and take you on a short cave trip we have a qualified instructor or if you would like a potter about some caves just give me a shout. we go out usualy at least once a week.
Also we have a member called Jack Nadine whom has wrote a few books on mines & mine stuff!
