I am still trying to get my head round:-

How can you get a zig zag up a straight incline? Or are they thinking of the Miners Path? It would be nice if they spelt Oakeley correctly too! :oops:

They definatly mean the miners path, I can't think of any zig zag that prominent on the horizon. I'm not sure about lighting it though, could attract some unwanted attention, i think they should maybe concentrate on preserving it first, or investing the money into the highstreet. And if they do install lighting, maybe they should think about doing something similar with the Wrysgan incline, as that really is a prominent feature that can be seen for miles.

Indeedy! Some of those images were taken specifically for the BBC album, some were picked out of the archives (as it were).

Brilliant that the industry might be given some recognition, especially since the evidence is still so thick on the ground. It's a wonderful resource and will benefit the local economy too. But lighting up the miner's zig-zag path...as someone else has said, better to conserve it first. What about all that light pollution and energy saving we keep being told about? Far better to spend the money that would have been used lighting up the path for somewhere else in Blaenau...rescuing the stalled Market Hall arts centre/interpretative centre scheme perhaps...Anyhow, whingeing aside, some good may well come of all this!

I think lighting up the path at Oakeley would have been a good idea when the reataurant and tourist centre was still open at Gloddfa ganol in pre 1997 days. But then again might be nice with lights on it if you could walk up the track up to the quarry etc. with something there for tourist.
The mountain bike trail at Llechwedd might be a good idea if people pay to go on it per person. Which at coed y brenin you pay £3 per car per day so 4 or 5 people can go for £3 all day.
You will pay a fortune for standing at a que at Alton towers. And now you pay about £40 for an underground tour with 'go below'.
Most mountain bikers are day trippers, and many who stay want a holiday cottage for 5 which often belongs to someone from Birmingham anyway.
So basicaly what I am saying is if it brings in some money localy and creates some positive job opertunities then yes go ahead. But if not, it might be better spent on something else.
