Hi there guys. For those of you who do not do srt, I am planning on taking people to look at both ends of the Croesor Rhosydd through trip whilst the other group go through. The trip will be an easy one, first visiting Croesor Quarry, and then returning over the hill to Rhosydd for a look around there. The trip will involve no srt at all and is suitable for all.

The plan is to meet in the Cwmorthin Car Park at 10am and walk up with the through-trippers.

I know there are also people who were too late to put their name down for the through trip and would like to - I'm happy to take a couple of people through with Simonrl afterwards.

I put my name down for this but circumstances don't permit after all. 😞 I posted this on the original thread, but I'm just repeating it here so it doesn;t get missed

Hope being suitable for all includes fat blokes.

If that is the case, is there a minimum kit we can use?

I ask because I have only done a bit of MEing in the last couple of years, so my headgear is this:

http://www.caving-gear.co.uk/show_product.asp?id=793

I take it with a backup hand held (the Tesco one), and wind up torch. And thus equipped have done a Wrygan through trip and a look in Cwmorthin.

Thus equipped would I be welcome on this trip? If not could I borrow a better lamp?

Hi Andy,

Can't see any problems, but I'm sure one of us can lend you something if you want: I tend to cart a spare headlamp around with me 'just in case' and I'm aiming to be somewhere that day.

We all have ideas of what should be a "minimum" standard of lighting, but as long as you can see the floor and and the walls, you're fine! Perhaps we forget that the mines were dug by people with candles... 🙂
Hello again darkness, my old friend...

Cheers - as I said I did a Wrysgan through trip, and then wondered across the valley and spent a couple of hours in Cwmorthin.

The headlamp was fine - to look far I also used my tesco 3W cree torch (after it being recommended on this forum) which seemed to be a bit brighter (better focused?)

Afterwards I realised I had run the headlamp for both trips with a set of batteries from an AA 10pack I had bought in Poundland (although I had pleanty of branded spares).

Sounds good. I will be in N Wales for the last time of 2009 that day. So would enjoy something different. And a large breakfast in the Lakeside Cafe.

Hi,

I will be leaving ontuesday and plan to be at the Cwmorthin Car Park by 10:00 (I also plan to scoff a breakfast at the Lakeside Cafe before then).

I will assume to look for 'mine explorer types' and introduce myself and find which is the group for the non-srt types.

Not sure if ther is any point in swopping mobile nos as as I recall there is no signal until you get near to the top of the Cwmorthin spoil heaps.

There may be a problem with the Croesor & Rhosydd (i.e. the non-SRT trip) this Saturday. Merddinemrys (who was going to lead it) has been told he has had his shifts changed and needs to work this weekend. He is on holiday at the moment and asked me to pass on his apologies.

Unless somebody else can offer to guide this trip it may need to be postponed. I think the list of attendees was:

AndyC
hymac580c (coming for the walk)
DylanW
James Cartwright (doing the CRTT afterwards according to Merddin - glutton for punishment!)

What do people want to do? Postpone the non-SRT trip, or if anybody else feels like leading it are there any more takers for the trip?

This does not affect the Croesor to Rhosydd through trip, which is going ahead as planned. In fact a few more have asked to do it and so it's likely to be split into two separate groups an hour or so apart!

my orders are to sit here and watch the world go by

I don't mind showing the way if people can understand my accent. We could if you wish hold the safety rope for those going down the first abseil in Croesor.

Unfortunately I need to do a job this Saturday which I thought I had planned for next week. So I will have to give this weekend a miss.
Anyway, have a good trip and let us know how you get on.

I fancied this trip and had to bow out for other commitments, let me know what develops. If it is postponed I would be up for it, dates permitting

Hi there guys. Sorry at having to cancel the trip at last minute. If people are still interested I'm more than happy to do the same trip at a later date.

Would definitely like to have a look around Croesor and Rhosydd separately without all the dangling bits and 'of death' bits 😉
Couldn't make the last (cancelled) trip but would like to go again sometime. :flowers:

Hi all,

I'll have to pull out of this i'm afraid, Just done some hiking over the Elidirs and Glyders- all went ok untill i started up Tryfan and pulled my calf muscle (The only thing I've pulled this year!!) quite badly. The decent down was slowly and painfull! Although i can walk on it, I don't want to agrivate it more than what i have already done.

enjoy yourselfs
