Hi there, one of my new year's resolutions was to get underground more and for one reason or another it hasn't happened. With the weather improving I guess I have no excuse now!

So, on Sunday 3rd May I'll be going to have a look at the Moelwyn, Pant Mawr and Fron Boeth Quarries around the Tanygrisiau area - meet in Cwmorthin car park at 10am. This is an open invitation for anybody interested to come with us. I don't know many of you on here so maybe its a chance to get to know more people interested in exploring in the area.

I haven't advertised it as a trip, as I don't know how much we will see/be able to see. There are a few open adits though and it should be an interesting day. There is a fairly long walk to get to them - these are remote quarries which has helped preserve some of the relics there.

If anybody's interested could you reply to this post so that we have a rough idea of who's interested and who we need to wait for in the car park.

I was going to say that I would come along there with you as I have not been there for a while now. But looking at the A.N. calender it clashes with the day we are taking our car to the Llandudno Transport festival.
But you should find Fronboeth very interesting outside and underground. The big steam boiler by the mill with a pipe leading into the lower adit is quite something.
You will need wellies to enter the first 3 levels if I remember correctly just for the first few feet.
Not sure if you can enter Moelwyn mine now as a steel grid was put up after an outward bound member fell to his death down a shaft about 1993. But there were some interesting adits to the left of moelwyn still open.

Thanks Hymac. Will take some weliies. Moelwyn might be a lost cause but we can have a look around on the surface. There are some trials on the walk up there I think.

I don't suppose anyone will be passing anywhere near Bangor?? I'd like to go on this trip, but unfortunately I can't get to Blaenau by 10:00 on a Sunday by public transport. 😞
