On 26th September 2013, water flow meters were installed in the entrances to Caplecleugh Low Level and Rampgill Level. These meters will be in place until 31st December 2014. The objective of the meters is to capture at least one full year of flow data in all seasons and weather conditions. The information will assist in the design of a water treatment plant which will aim to reduce the amount of zinc entering the River Nent.

The meters were installed by contractors to the Coal Authority on behalf of the Environment Agency under the terms of a license from Cumbria County Council.

The installations are engineered to cause a minimum of obstruction to people entering the mines. Please help to care for the meters by not damaging the installations and reporting any problems.
