All depends on who owned the land I suppose - I know Cwmorthin were never keen to let rival companies over their land hence the building of the Croesor Tramway branch to Rhosydd. That would have been one hell of a tramway though!

There were allsorts of wayleave problems with Cwm Orthin, hence the pack horse track mentioned earlier. Having said that, Conglog ran a tramway right through the Cwmorthin mills and onto the inclines

I've been in the middle adit. The top one is blocked and the bottom one has tip encroaching on it which put me off - must go back there though to see what its like. Just to the left (looking up the valley) of the Open Pit workings - there is a small adit leading into a chamber - I've always fancied abseiling in there to see where it goes - could probably get access to the top adit inside then.

Presumably, I've only waled past on the way down from Rhoseydd.
Cool place, not many external stuff left though, just a few banks. 😉

The mill is quite impressive for such a small undertaking, and the launder pillars.

I remember seeing a mill, but little left i think
Out of interest does anyone know of any really small slate workings in north wales accessed by a crater or shaft, without any adits?

I can't think of any. But then in our climate they would be full of water - sounds dangerous!

You people should visit some Cumbrian slate workings. Only about 3 are extensive, but some of their chambers are huge, and many still have relics like internal ropeays, railways, and ladders, walling, catwals, a fw have inclines.

I'd love to - I've done the public tour at Honister but It'd be great to go and explore the workings on the other side.
