SH671466 is the grid ref given on the link a couple of posts back. Look forward to seeing pics, I'd never heard of this place until reading this topic...

 The gird ref puts it up along the Rhosydd path just past Cwmorthin lake nearer to conglog?
Any ideas?
Cheers

That gridref appears to be incorrect, SH671 446 should put you on the road that cuts the Wrysgan incline towards Stwlan dam. There is nothing to really see apart from a gated trial, so dont plan your whole day at this one!

Up there next Sunday.
Have some freinds who want to do something. They may not be keen on getting too wet so we may end up in Wrysgan.
Also back at easter to do something. Dont know what yet.

There's supposed to be a pack horse path between Rhosydd and Wrysgan dating back to the time when Cwmorthin were trying to prevent Rhosydd slate from being carried down the valley. Anyone have any idea where it is and if its possible to walk along still?

I've seen the evidence of that track, and there is little left.

The pack horse trail went from Rhosydd via Moelwyn and Cwm Maesgwym and was used for about 30 years

Ah, so it doesn't go up Cwm Orthin at all? No wonder I've never found it!

I reckon a whole day could be spent up in the Moelwyn's covering Moelwyn Slate and Zinc Mines, Croesor, Pant Mawr and Moelwyn Manganese. Was going to go on a reccy up there today but the weathers not too nice!

did any of the slate working use the same transport systems as some of the other mines you've mentioned? :glare:

Moelwyn Slate Mine and Moelwyn Zinc Mines were both users of the Festiniog Railway and had inclines down to the main line below the Power Station. Pantmawr, Croesor, Rhosydd and Parc were users of the Croesor Tramway.
