Has anyone ever found the underground incline in Wrysgan or is it beyond some falls? There are some tunnels just to the west of Wrysgan which look as if they could connect with something - one dips down quite steeply but I've never explored its full length.

There is AN incline at the end of level6 going down to level 5.
Haven't been there yet but from what I've heard a bit of ropw is useful.
I doubt this is was the main incline.
It is possible to climb over some falls along some of the levels heading west but having poked around them yet. There are rather large bits of roof to get over 😮

Is this incline shown on any of the maps of Wrysgan? I've got one plan but it doesn't show the incline.

Would like to go back to Wrysgan, have only explored the easily accessible parts.

I can't see it on my map either.
I have the David Baines map (is this the one you have?)
Apparently it is towards the west end of floor 6.
I was planning to just walk right along 6 until I came across it.
Last time I did walk along for a few chambers. One chamber has a roof collapse near the tunnel but it is passable. Had I known about the incline then I would have continued. There is an adit to the west which has a crawl them needs an abseil. Not sure if this connects to the incline chamber. Then another adit further up which is blind and maybe in water.
Need another explore. 😉

That's the same map I've got...

Agreed, needs another explore, but a proper one this time with ropes and stuff 😉

Certainly don't think there is a shortage of bits of roof to anchor from 😮
Sounds like a good day out

Count me in if you're going back. Do you reckon some of the tunnels to the west of the mine are worth checking out or are they likely to be trials and totally unconnected?

I only know of one which is just off the plan. Some people I met up there once had spent all of a bank holiday digging it out and it was blind 😞

That is so often the case when digging out tunnels which is a shame! The one I went into sloped downwards at a very steep angle and I followed it down for quite a way - it must drain somewhere else it would have been full of water.

Miles has photographed the incline remains hasn't he? I am certain crawl is beyond the incline chamber.

Tan y Grisiau (spelling)? the sidings were adjacent to the railway station. Merddinemrys should be able to tell more!

No, it wouldn't appear so, they are trials searching for the vein by another quarrying company. I will dig the name out for these workings ....

Its very difficult to see where the Wrysgan incline joined the Festiniog Railway as the railway has been obliterated by the Power Station Visitor Centre and the new roads to Dolrhedyn and Stwlam Dam.

It would have been roughly around the grassy area behind the Visitor Centre's car park. Don't forget that the Festiniog Railway is on a completely new alignment at this point - much further north and at a higher level than the original route.

Thanks both!
You can easily work out some of the lower inclines near the power station (some).

It is the Moelwyn Inclines that are behind the power station.

As Merddin says the Wrysgan incline came down where the grassy bank next to the power station visitor centre is.

Chwarel Twm Ffeltiwr. The trial adit has a tough gate fixed into the rock, can be passed though by looking carefully, but dont waste your time. The second adit has collapsed but is rumored to have very small minor workings in there
