I had to fix a machine on a site next to the A30 tonight and noticed in the the middle of the site a large grilled shaft, quick check shows this to be Hiddersley shaft, anyone dropped it or know if anything goes off it. Couldnt get to the top as its very overgrown.Cheers T

Thanks for the info chaps, doesn't seem like ideal bat habitat with no levels. Also looking at Wheals photos it used to be in open country. Now surrounded by crap modern housing!.
Stuey I think our company put some laddered rings in to the top of the laddered shaft you mention. I take it it's related to Crofty?
Are the fenced areas in the recreation field near the boilerworks shaft related too?

The adit level plan of Hidderley’s shaft bears no relationship to what is actually there.
Plan looks interesting but there is only one very wet level from the shaft to a blind end. Lot of groundwater pouring down the shaft walls. Water level about 8 feet below the drive.
Looked good but wasn’t.
