Bit more info:

Ison Mine
http://archaeologydataservice.ac.uk/archsearch/record.jsf?titleId=1308652
accessed 081216 Ison Iron mine comprises extensive west-east workings covering some 1.5 km. It formerly covered some 13 adits and shafts. Worked between 1854 and 1877. The alleged track bed of a tramway survives, but is more likely to be a well made road.

accessed 081216 The subject site is recorded on the Exmoor Historic Environment Record under ref: MEM15372 as the dwelling was built in the 1960s located within a quarry that formerly contained an office, powder store and manager’s house for Ison Mine, which were probably built in 1854 and demolished before the current house was built.
